The Web Site Design and Development Process

Phase One: Information gathering & planning
The first step in designing a successful website is to gather all the information. Several things need to be taken into consideration when the look and feel of your site is created. We will ask questions to get a clear understanding of your image, goals, audience, project parameters and desired outcomes. We will then explain if there are any design problems and develop strategies to solve them effectively and efficiently. We will produce a wire frame that maps the user experience in order to address and suppress any problems that could disrupt the development. Certain things to consider are:
  • Purpose: What is the main purpose of the site? Do you want it to provide information, promote a service, sell a product… ?
  • Goals: What would you hope to achieve by building this website? Two of the more common goals are either to make money or share information.
  • Target Audience: Is there a specific group of people that you want to reach? It may be helpful to picture the type of visitors you want to visit your website. For example, considering their age, sex or interests this will later help determine the best design style for your site.
  • Content: What kind of information will the target audience be looking for on your site? Are they looking for specific information, a particular product or service, online ordering…?
Phase Two: Design
Using the information gathered from phase one all the information will be put together. This is the stage where we begin to apply the creativity that is required to start developing the website. Choices about layout, type size and colour palettes are tested within a number of ideas to identify what works best in order to communicate your goals. This is where we will create one or more prototype designs for your web site. This is typically a .jpg image of what the final design will look like. We will allow you to view website during design stages as it gives you the opportunity to express your likes and dislikes on the site design.
Phase Three: Development
Once phase two is complete this is where start web development process comes into action and your website is created. Now this is where a working system mimics the final design. This is where it will be built clean, semantic code that validates according to the W3C Org’s standards. We will continue to make progress with the website and make it available to you for viewing, so that you can suggest any additional changes or corrections you would like to have done.
Phase Four: Testing & Launch
At this point this is where we will finalise and test your website. We will test things such as the complete functionality of forms or other scripts, as well last testing for last minute compatibility issues (viewing differences between different web browsers), ensuring that your web site is optimised to be viewed properly in the most recent browser versions. Once you give us your approval we will then deploy the website to the production, hosting server where a final pre-launch check will be conducted. Once launched our team will be on hand to troubleshoot any queries you may have with regards to your site and its performance.
